Thurs Mar 5 - A Host of People // The Modern Women w/ Special Event by Seraphine Collective:
A Host of People presents a theatrical performance
that showcases the work, lives, and passions of important but sometimes
unsung women artists of the last 100 years. The Modern Woman is an
immersive experience set in a home, where every room corresponds to a
different decade between the 1910s and the 2010s and is inhabited by
different women artists, past and present. During the course of the
piece, the audience will see work inspired by such artists as Emmy
Hennings, Katherine Dunham, Maya Deren, and Yvonne Rainer among many
others. Through looking at these modern women, A Host of People seeks to
put a renewed focus on women who push the envelope in their work, in
both content and form, and the contributions females have historically made and continue to make, socially and artistically.
*Special event featuring a pre-show set by Seraphine Collective on Thursday March 5th at 7:30; The Modern Woman to follow. Featuring performance artist Emily Roll and musician Izzy Johnson at 7:30 and 8 pm respectively.
*Play performances will also take place on Fri Mar 6 and Sat Mar 7 and Sun Mar 8, without the preceding performances

Mimi Thi Nguyen is an Associate Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies and Asian American Studies at the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign. Her first monograph, The Gift of Freedom: War, Debt, and Other Refugee Passages (Duke 2012), won the 2014 Outstanding Book Award from the Association for Asian American Studies.
